Port City Surgery
Port City Emergency Vets works closely with many GP veterinary practices in the area. When a surgical case presents to us as an emergency, our goal is to:
1. Stabilise the patient, ensuring adequate analgesia.
2. Achieve a diagnosis.
3. Assess surgical options.
If the case requires surgery:
For emergency surgeries, we proceed as soon as the patient is stable, and it is deemed safe to do so.
For non-emergency surgeries, the role of Port City Emergency Vets is as follows:
- Stabilise the patient and communicate with the owner's regular GP vet to determine the next steps. These may include:
1. Returning the patient to their GP vet for surgery.
2. Referring the patient to a Board-certified specialist surgeon if required.
3. Performing the surgery at Port City Emergency Vets. Option 3 occurs only when options 1 and 2 have been declined, and both the GP vet and the owner request this service.
Keely McGregor, our dedicated orthopaedic surgeon, brings a wealth of experience in veterinary care. Keely oversees our small team of veterinarians who are skilled in a variety of soft tissue surgeries.
Keely successfully passed the small animal surgery membership exams, in 2023, to become a member of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists. While Keely is not a specialist, her extensive training and experience are invaluable.
